Llama Gestation Calculator & Chart
Llamas carry a cria for about 350 days — right around eleven and a half months — with most births between 340 and 360 days. Like alpacas, llamas are induced ovulators: no heat cycle, so pregnancy is confirmed by behavior testing and ultrasound rather than watching for return heat.
Typical management windows for planning — health decisions belong with your veterinarian.

Common questions
How long is a llama pregnant?
About 350 days on average — slightly longer than an alpaca — with a normal window of roughly 340 to 360 days.
How do I know the breeding took?
Behavior test around 2 weeks (a pregnant female spits off the male), then confirm by ultrasound around 45–60 days. Progesterone blood tests are another option through your vet.
When do llamas give birth?
Almost always in daylight, typically morning — same Andean inheritance as alpacas. A llama laboring at night merits a call to the vet.
How soon can a female be rebred?
Many breeders rebreed 2–3 weeks after an uncomplicated birth, but body condition comes first — ask your vet or an experienced breeder.
