When can a vet confirm pregnancy?
Ultrasound is reliable from about day 25–35. Around day 45 an X-ray can count puppy skeletons so you know how many to expect at whelping.
What temperature drop signals labor?
A dam’s rectal temperature commonly drops about a degree (below ~99°F) within 24 hours of whelping. Twice-daily checks in the final week catch it.
When should the whelping box be ready?
